Verse:
James 2:17 – "Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."
Lesson: Faith is more than words or rituals, it’s a daily lived reality. Children notice not just what we say about God, but how we live in alignment with Him. When your decisions, priorities, and interactions reflect your relationship with Christ, you teach your children how faith works in real life. Your consistency in prayer, service, and obedience becomes a living example of God’s love and power. Faith in action means showing courage when it’s hard, helping others without being asked, speaking truth even when it’s uncomfortable, and making choices guided by God’s principles. It means living visibly for Christ, not just keeping faith private. Your children watch closely, and they internalize what they see far more than what they hear. A dad who prays, serves, and acts with integrity plants seeds of faith that grow long after he’s gone.
Reflection: Ask yourself: “Am I demonstrating my faith daily, or am I settling for mere words?” Too often, dads talk about faith but fail to model it in consistent action. Your children are learning how to live for God by watching your choices, your courage, and your compassion. The gap between talking about faith and living it is a lesson your children will notice and replicate.
Insight:
In the 2009 BCS National Championship Game, Tim Tebow famously wrote "John 3:16" on his eye black. Three years later, to the exact day, playing for the Broncos, Tebow had a playoff game (known as the 3:16 game) where the stats were eerily aligned with that verse. Tebow threw for exactly 316 passing yards, he averaged (an NFL record) 31.6 yards per completion, and the TV ratings peaked at 31.6 million views. Additionally, Pittsburgh’s time of possession was 31 minutes and 6 seconds, and QB, Ben Roethlisberger, threw the game's only interception on a 3rd and 16. It was a statistical anomaly that made "John 3:16" the most searched term on Google the next day, leading to over 90 million searches.
This incident proves two things: 1) God has a magnificent sense of relationship, and 2) if you commit to your faith visibly, people will notice. As fathers, we may not influence search rankings or make headlines, but our faith in action is shaping our children every day. If we speak of love, patience, or integrity, our children are watching to see how we live it out in the small, everyday choices. Our kids notice the moments we may think are insignificant, and it’s in those moments that our faith becomes real to them.
Family Mantra: "Belief becomes behavior."
Prayer: Father, help me to live a faith that is active and visible to my children. Teach me to serve, love, and act in ways that reflect Your truth. Give me courage to walk boldly in Your ways, humility to admit my mistakes, and consistency so my children see a living example of faith. May my life point them to You every day. Amen.
