Verse:
Proverbs 10:9 – “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”
Lesson: Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. As we’ve said, children pay attention not just to what we say, but how we act, how we treat others, keep promises, and handle mistakes. When dads consistently live with honesty and moral courage, they provide a roadmap for their children to follow. Modeling integrity means aligning words and actions. It requires admitting mistakes, apologizing sincerely, and demonstrating fairness in everyday decisions. It’s not about perfection, but about commitment to truth, respect, and ethical behavior. Over time, this modeling builds a foundation of trust, both at home and in the wider world.
Insight: Sahith Theegala, a rising star on the PGA Tour, demonstrated remarkable integrity during the 2024 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. During the third round, he noticed that his club might have brushed the sand during his backswing in a bunker, an infraction that no one else had observed. Despite the high stakes, Theegala immediately informed his playing partner and a rules official, resulting in a two-stroke penalty. This penalty cost him approximately $2.5 million in potential prize money. Yet Theegala later remarked, “Pretty sure I breached the rules, so I'm paying the price for it, and I feel good about it.” This act underscores the principle that true integrity is choosing to do what’s right, even when it comes at a personal cost. Children watching your example learn that honesty and accountability matter more than convenience or reward.
Reflection: Ask yourself: “Are my actions teaching integrity, or just my words?” Look at your daily interactions, whether at work, in public, or at home. Children notice consistency, fairness, and honesty. When you live with integrity, you create a safe, trustworthy environment where your children learn to value truth above convenience or popularity.
Family Mantra: "Integrity is caught, not taught."
Prayer: Father, help me to live with integrity in every part of my life. Guide my words and actions so they align with Your truth. Teach me to be honest, humble, and fair, even when it is difficult. May my children see integrity modeled daily, learning to honor You in all they do. Amen.
